Our Midwifery Program
As Michigan’s first direct-entry midwifery program, Detroit Midwifery School will provide accessible, responsive and sustainable community-based midwifery education.
Designed to be completed in three years, our Midwifery Education program will:
Seek national accreditation
Include hybrid didactic learning along with apprenticeships
Prepare students to manage the business dimensions of their work
Meet the workforce demand for more midwives, especially those of color and those from marginalized communities
Address knowledge gaps within the current landscape of midwifery education
Become a source for continuing education for the greater birth work community
Completion of our program allows graduates to sit for a national exam to become Certified Professional Midwives and licensed professionals in their state.
If you are interested in applying, please review our admissions criteria in the application packet.
